Cheryl Cole has criticised the "mean campaign" threatening to keep her protege, Joe McElderry, out of the Christmas number one spot. The Girls Aloud star, who worked with her fellow Geordie on The X Factor, said she hoped his song, The Climb, he beats Rage Against The Machine (RATM) in the race for the top of the charts. She said: "I would be devastated to see Joe lose possibly the best thing that could happen to him in his life. Every aspiring pop star dreams of a number one record." She added: "It is a beautiful song. He put his heart and soul into every single week of The X Factor and I cannot bear to see him lose out to a mean campaign that has nothing to do with his efforts. If that song, or should I say campaign, by an American group is our Christmas number one I'll be gutted for him and our charts." Latest figures show RATM retaining their lead with Killing In The Name in the biggest seasonal chart battle for a decade. Despite predictions that talent show winner McElderry would storm ahead when his CD went on sale on Wendesday, the rap-metal act are still in front. But the 18-year-old has narrowed the gap, with the difference between them now at around 40,000 copies. Retailers and record company Sony will be rubbing their hands at the chart battle as the two tracks between them have now sold around 470,000 copies so far this week, according to Official Charts Company data. If sales continue, they could sell upwards of 500,000 copies each by the weekend. The last big Christmas battle anywhere near this scale was the Spice Girls' Goodbye and South Park character Chef's Chocolate Salty Balls in 1998. The Spice Girls won with 380,000 to their rival's 375,000. Fans of McElderry were out in force yesterday as the CD version of his song finally hit shops. It had previously been available only as a download. The X Factor winner sold more than 100,000 copies of the single on Wednesday. RATM's track has been championed by an internet campaign as an X Factor protest vote because of its anti-establishment sentiment. Final chart positions will be announced on Sunday. Source

Fans on Twitter helped save the Chuck from cancellation. Can fans also help attract new viewers to the show? Funny video introducing the contest with Zachary Levi and Joshua Gomez: Chuck Min-Marathon: Syfy will air a special "Chuck" marathon on Thursday, Jan. 7, the NBC Universal cable network announced. Eight hand-picked episodes, including the premiere and finale, will air. The lineup also includes "Chuck vs. The First Date," "Chuck vs. The Seduction," "Chuck vs. The Break-Up," "Chuck vs. The Santa Claus," "Chuck vs. The Predator," "Chuck vs. The Dream Job," "Chuck vs. The Colonel" and "Chuck vs. The Ring." Access Hollywood's Nancy O'Dell is leaving her job two years before her contract expires. Her last show will be this week.
"The original member of the Access Hollywood family, co-anchor and respected broadcast journalist Nancy O'Dell, has chosen to leave the show after 13 years," says a statement from her rep. "O’Dell appreciates NBC’s cooperation as she begins this next chapter in her career.
Even though she will be leaving for a new opportunity, this decision is based totally on Nancy’s desire to take her career to the next level and is completely amicable. She will continue on with projects as a broadcast entertainment journalist."
A source tells PEOPLE O’Dell has been uncomfortable for the past several months with what she sees as the show's more sensational direction. "She has spent a lot of years building respect in the entertainment community and celebrities trust her," says the source. "She's known as the nice and classy girl. She values that."
Prior to the show, O’Dell spent seven years as a news anchor and investigate reporter.
As for what she’s doing next, O’Dell has yet to make an announcement. Her next scheduled broadcast appearance will be as the host of the Tournament of Roses Parade live on NBC on New Year’s day. O’Dell is married to business executive Keith Zubchevich. They are parents to daughter Ashby, 2. On this morning’s View, I was shocked to watch as Lizzie, never known for her smarts, actually asked actor Stanley Tucci, whose wife died from cancer this year, if his DEAD WIFE had seen his movie.

Personally, I would have walked out, but Stanley, being the classy guy that he is, just said “no” and changed the subject.

Background: she died from cancer in April. He was talking about how when he first was offered the role, his wife told him not to do it. But then after being promised that they weren’t showing the rape/murder, he decided to.

Seriously, View people. Don’t you guys have background researchers? A simple Google search would have told you in SECONDS if this was an inappropriate question. I didn’t think it was possible for Elisabeth Hasselbeck to look any stupider, but she proved me wrong today, BUT GOOD.

Why "The Simpsons" no longer matters

What a difference 20 years makes! On Dec. 17, 1989, the still-infant Fox Broadcasting Co. aired the first episode of "The Simpsons," the animated show about a dysfunctional family from Springfield that has since become the longest-running prime-time series in American history. It's hard to overstate the show's impact. It has spawned a merchandising empire ("Simpsons" air freshener, anyone?), been at the center of a culture war (Barbara Bush called it "the dumbest thing I'd ever seen") and inspired a hit movie (not to mention comedy writers' rooms everywhere). Plus, "d'oh!" is now in the dictionary.

Thursday marks the show's two-decade anniversary – an event that serves as a reminder not only of the show's extraordinary staying power, but also the extent to which it's disappeared from the cultural conversation. While "The Family Guy" and "South Park" have kicked up controversy -- tackling subjects like Scientology and abortion -- "The Simpsons" seems to have aged from envelope-pushing misfit to grandfatherly institution. But as John Ortved argues in "The Simpsons: An Uncensored, Unauthorized History," an oral history of the show's tumultuous rise and creative demise, the "Simpsons'" legacy continues to be felt everywhere from "Wall-E" to Barack Obama's speechwriting.

Salon spoke to Ortved over the phone about the show's effect on television comedy, Marge's recent Playboy cover, and whether it's finally time to pull the plug.

Amanda Seyfried, who has portrayed Bill Paxton’s oldest child Sarah since the drama debuted in 2006, will be leaving to pursue a burgeoning film career.

"She's been exploring her movie career for a couple of years now, and we've been giving her a lot of room to do that,” Big Love creator Will Scheffer told TV Guide Magazine. “I know having a commitment to a show for six months definitely cuts into her ability to pursue that career.

"In the season's eighth episode - there will only be nine total this year - Sarah will leave the family, Scheffer confirms, saying simply: “She's moving away."

Until that point, Seyfried will have plenty to do on the HBO hit: her character will be getting hitched in the third episode, which causes series drama involving her disappointed parents.

As sad as I am that she's leaving, I understand her choice and I'm happy for her. I know she has a promising film career ahead of her. :)

Hailey Glassman milks the last moments of her fifteen minutes by refereeing a female boxing match at an airport Ramada Inn. Too bad she won't be fighting.

Hailey was a guest this morning on the Philadelphia morning radio show, Preston and Steve, under the careful supervision of her lawyer. During her interview Hailey talked about how she's is now in therapy and would like to become a Psychologist one day.

On her relationship with her Ex-Douche Boyfriend, Jon Gosselin, Hailey says, "Ugh, I don't want to talk about it." However, she was quickly reminded by the host that that's the the real reason why she was there and that no one could care less about the boxing match.

I am totally clueless about the answer to this question and would really appreciate your input:
Does cohabiting (not sexually) with a drug addict increase a non-drug user's chances of getting a STD? Does this apply for AIDS as well? What precautions can be taken if moving out (i.e. leaving the drug addict)  is not immediately possible? 

I apologize if this is the wrong place to ask this question and would appreciate it if you can direct me to the appropriate source.
